A major step toward sustainable printing and packaging

Orfoncé has reached an important milestone in the development of its Wood Ink technology. Our petroleum-free wood inks were successfully tested on an industrial flexographic press at the Institut des communications graphiques et de l’imprimabilité (I-CI) in Québec, Canada.

During the trials, our Golden, Black, and Orange Wood Inks were printed on non-porous substrates under a range of operating conditions, including different printing speeds and ink film thicknesses. The successful performance of these formulations demonstrates the potential of wood-based inks for industrial printing and packaging applications.

Unlike conventional inks, which often rely on petroleum-derived components, Orfoncé’s Wood Inks are produced from Canadian forestry residues and eco-friendly solvents. Our technology aims to provide a sustainable alternative while maintaining the performance required by modern printing processes.

These industrial trials represent an important step toward commercializing a new generation of environmentally friendly inks for labels, packaging, and other printed products.

Why it matters

The printing and packaging industries are facing increasing demand for sustainable materials and secure supply chains. By transforming forestry residues into high-value inks, Orfoncé contributes to the circular bioeconomy while reducing dependence on fossil-based resources.

Our Wood Inks are designed to offer:

  • 🌲 Raw materials derived from Canadian forestry residues;
  • ♻️ Petroleum-free formulations;
  • 🌱 Eco-friendly solvents;
  • 📦 Compatibility with sustainable packaging applications;
  • 🖨️ Industrial-scale printability.

Collaboration and Support

This milestone would not have been possible without the excellent collaboration of the I-CI team, whose expertise and support were invaluable throughout the industrial trials.

We also gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Ville de Québec and the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), whose contributions have helped advance this technology toward commercialization.

Watch the Wood Inks in Action

A video of the industrial flexographic printing trials is now available and showcases our Wood Inks running on press under real production conditions.

This achievement marks another step toward Orfoncé’s vision of transforming Canadian forestry residues into high-value, sustainable materials for the printing and packaging industries.

Stay tuned for more developments as we continue to expand the capabilities of Wood Ink technology and move toward fully sustainable printing solutions. 🌲🖨️♻️
